"Football, Brazilian music and MIDI are the ingredients which have been carefully stirred and shaken on this album whose title is silly and temptative at the same time. Producer Don Atom cuts bossa classics and street samba recording into pieces and rearranged them the wrong way round. The result is confusing yet groovy. Out of tune but still harmonic, dissonant although surprisingly smooth. The album contains 12 little masterpieces of fine MIDI-craftmanship: well adjusted velocity and duration values all the way through combines with harddisks going crazy and croony Portuguese lyrics which sound all so familiar. Amongst programming highlights such as 'Training' or 'Debafinado' the album contains a re-worked 'R.I.' classic: the title 'MIDI A Gogo' from 1996's Machine Paisley album, now transferred into the 'Year 2001 Soccer Hymn' and for sure a step forward. Described as the missing link between Atom Heart and Sun Ra, this is the latest in digital reconstruction from Atom Heart's RI label. From Lazlo Curas' liner notes: "There is so much to say about this music. I don't mean so much to explain about it because that's stupid. The music speaks for itself. What I mean is that so much flashes through my mind when I hear this album that if I would write a novel about it full of life and scenes and people and blood and sweat and love. And sometimes I think maybe what we need is to tell people that this is here because somehow in this plasticized world they have the automatic reflex that if something is labeled one way then that is all there is in it and we are always finding out to our surprise that there is more to Blake or more to Ginsberg or more to Stravinsky than whatever it was we thought was there in the first place. So be it with the music we have called jazz and which we never knew what it was because it was so many different things to so many different people each apparently contradicting the other and one day I flashed that it was music. Electric music is the music of this culture and in the breaking away from previously assumed forms a new kind of music is emerging. The whole society is like that. The old forms are inadequate.
